UPDATE - v2.01 Released
WordHopper » Devlog
Hello again! Just a small update to address some lingering issues post-v2.00.
Changelog
- Updated demo
- Also increased word limit to 20
- Added pause button to Zen mode (when mouse is available)
- This button technically existed, but with no sprite to indicate it was there
- Fixed strobing/upside-down output when attempting to stream/record the pre-conf'd DOSBox builds
- If things somehow run worse and you don't intend on streaming/recording, you can undo this by opening dosbox-staging.conf and changing "output" from "texture" to "opengl".
- Fixed crashes under NTVDM (Windows 2000, XP, etc.)
- The automatically selected sound drivers would trash memory for no apparent reason; since no other sound drivers work correctly under NTVDM, sound is now automatically disabled.
- Fixed small visual issues
- For those interested:
- Stuck reticle when using the mouse + aim keys
- Missing highlights on some mouse regions (hourglass, menu text buttons)
- Single frame of palette weirdness when going from title->game
- Pop-in after fade out upon exiting
- Timerbar effect sticking behind for one frame on field reset
- Broken antialiasing on letters under field transition outline
- For those interested:
- Fixed valid word effect performance regression
- tens of 486s around the world collectively breathe a sigh of relief
- Reduced stutter between the intro and title
- Consequently, increased initial loading time a tiny bit
As with the previous update, you'll need to transfer/copy your profile over if you've played either v1.00 or v2.00. I've copied the process here for convenience:
- On DOS...
- Find the location of the game (where WORDHOPR.EXE and the DATA directory reside).
- If you have save data, it'll be in a file named PROFILE.DAT.
- If the file doesn't exist, either there's no save data, or you're in the wrong directory.
- Copy PROFILE.DAT to the location of v2.01, or if you're going to delete the contents of v1.00/v2.00's directory and replace it with v2.01, copy it somewhere safe before moving it back.
- Launch the game and check to make sure your scores appear.
- On Linux/Windows...
- Find the location of the game (where wordhopper/wordhopper.exe and the data folder reside).
- Enter the 'data' folder. You should see WORDHOPR.EXE and another DATA folder in here.
- If you have save data, it'll be in a file named PROFILE.DAT.
- If the file doesn't exist, either there's no save data, or you're in the wrong folder.
- Copy PROFILE.DAT to the same location in v2.01's data folder.
- Launch the game and check to make sure your scores appear.
Enjoy!
